Broadband Internet For Brocton ? How you can help.Posted by David Herbert on 19th July 2002 8:50pm Article Ref: 4 For frequent users of the Internet the current slow modem makes downloading large amounts of data either a chore or is not even contemplated. What if there was a system that was always connected to the Internet, was 10 times faster and gave you a voice line as well all for less than £30 per month. Well, there is, its commonly known as Broadband Internet and is available over large parts of he country, however this currently does not include Brocton, read on and I'l ltell you what could be done to resolve this. BT have upgraded many of their exchanges with a Broadband capability however this has not reached down to smaller exchanges such as the Milford Exchange which serves Brocton. BT have also said that unless sufficient interest is expressed in upgrading an exchange they may never do it. A BT web site at www.bt.com/broadband allows users to both test for Broadband availability (type in your phone number) and to register an interest. If sufficient people in Brocton regstered an interest there is a chance that the threshold level (which they have yet to publish) for the exchange will be met and we would be in with a chance of getting broadband. The number of registered users and the threshold is visible on the web site.
The benefits of broadband include delivery on your existing copper line, the line is split in the house into a voice and data line, approximately 512Kbps download and 256Kbps upload speeds, always on (no dial up) and its cheaper and faster than ISDN.
The benefits of broadband are manyfold and once you have experienced it its is very hard to use a slow modem again. If you would like high speed Internet please register and try to get any other Brocton Internet users to register. Back to broadband listing |
